Enrollment now open for our New academic year starting August 2023!

Welcome to SGIS International School, where we offer a bilingual education. We are proud to offer the full Khmer National Curriculum and the full Ontario (Canadian) Curriculum, and we are now open for enrollment for the new academic year starting on August 7, 2023.

At SGIS, we provide a quality education for students from pre-school (2-6 years) and elementary grades 1-6 to high school grades 7–12. Our highly qualified Khmer and international teachers are committed to helping each student reach their full potential. Our curriculum is internationally recognised, and our assessment is fair and transparent.

We also believe in the importance of co-curricular activities and bilingual education for our students. Co-curricular activities are those that complement the academic curriculum and enhance the learning experience of our students. They include sports, arts, clubs, and community service. Bilingual education is the practise of teaching in two languages: Khmer and English, in our case.

Some of the benefits of co-curricular activities are:

  • They help students develop their physical, social, emotional, and creative skills.
  • They provide opportunities for students to explore their interests, talents, and passions.
  • They foster teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • They promote a sense of belonging, responsibility, and citizenship.

Some of the benefits of bilingual education are:

  • It improves academic performance by enhancing cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, and reasoning.
  • It enhances linguistic awareness and understanding of an individual’s native language.
  • It increases the ability to apply concepts to novel situations by developing metalinguistic and metacognitive skills.
  • It delays the development of or increases resistance to, dementia by protecting the brain from ageing.
  • It improves focus and decision-making by strengthening the brain’s executive function.
  • It improves cultural and social skills by exposing students to different perspectives, values, and traditions.

At SGIS International School, we are proud to offer our students the benefits of co-curricular activities and bilingual education. We believe that these practices will prepare them for a successful future in a globalised world.

In addition, we also have the unique feature of offering dual grades in one class for some of our levels. For example, we have a grade 1 and 2 class and a grade 3 and 4 class. This means that students from two different grades are put in the same classroom and learn together.

Some of the benefits of offering dual grades in one class are:

  • They allow students to learn at their own pace and level, according to their individual needs and abilities.
  • They encourage students to cooperate and collaborate with peers of different ages, skills, and backgrounds.
  • They provide opportunities for students to mentor and learn from each other, developing leadership, communication, and social skills.
  • They foster a sense of community, responsibility, and citizenship among students.
  • They reduce the pressure of grade-based expectations and comparisons and promote a growth mindset.

At SGIS International School, we are proud to offer our students the benefits of dual grades in one class. We believe that this practise will enhance their learning experience and prepare them for a successful future.
